What is Syncing Mail?

Syncing mail keeps your emails up to date across all your devices. Whether you check your inbox on your phone, laptop, or tablet, mail syncing ensures you’re always seeing the same emails, read/unread statuses, and folders.

How it works

Most email providers use IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) to sync emails across devices. Instead of downloading emails to one device (like POP3 does), IMAP keeps everything on the server, allowing real-time updates whenever you read, move, or delete a message.

Some business email providers use Exchange ActiveSync, which also syncs contacts, calendars, and tasks.

Why it matters

  • Consistency: See the same inbox, no matter where you log in.
  • Efficiency: No need to sort or delete emails multiple times.
  • Data protection: Emails stay stored on the server, reducing the risk of data loss.

If your emails aren’t syncing, checking your email settings and switching to IMAP can usually fix the issue.
