DMARC Tag Descriptions

  • v (version) – the value within the “v” tag can be only set as “DMARC1” (otherwise the DMARC record will be considered invalid).
  • p (policy) – the value within the “p” tag can be set as either “quarantine”, “none”, or “reject”. The “none” value (default) does not perform any action against emails while “quarantine” marks emails as suspicious and “reject” blocks emails completely.
  • rua (aggregate report) – a URI that functions as “mailto:” as is used by ESPs for reporting.
  • ruf (forensic report) – similar to “rua”, it is used as the “mailto:” URI to ESPs for reporting purposes.
  • sp (subdomain policy) – this tag inherits the main domain policy (p=) unless you provide a different one. Similarly to the “p” tag, the values for “sp” can be either “none”, “quarantine” or “reject”.
  • adkim (DKIM signature alignment) – it follows alignments between the parent Header From Domain. You can use 2 values: “r” (relaxed)or “s” (strict) values.
  • aspf (SPF alignment) – it follows alignments between the SPF and the Header From Domain. Similarly to “adkim”, you can use either “r” or “s” values.
  • fo (forensic reporting) – the values within this tag create forensic reports when SPF and DKIM fail to generate an alignment pass. The “0” value is the default, “1” is used when the outcome is other than pass, and “d” and “s” create a report when either DKIM or SPF is invalid.
  • rf (reporting format) – you can use either “afrf” or “iodef” values.
  • pct (percentage tag) – the tag is used for domains that are under the “reject” or “quarantine” policy and marks the amount of failed emails for the given policy in percentage.
  • ri (reporting interval) – the tag marks the frequency of obtained XML reports (in seconds)
